Introduction to History is required for all first-semester History majors (first-year students and transfers). It introduces you to the discipline of history, the LMU History program, the Bellarmine College of Liberal Arts, LMU, and to many of the various learning opportunities available to you.
Topics include: academic planning and the development of individualized four-year plans; the History curriculum, including the concentrations and how to put together an integrated curriculum; an introduction to the discipline of history in preparation for the 2000-level methods and historiography seminar; opportunities for undergraduate research, global learning, national and international fellowships, and your future career pathways.
Regular, engaged, and thoughtful participation in class discussions is an essential part of the community-building function of this class. Regular activities are designed to help you learn about LMU and to prepare you for a successful future here and beyond. You will also set up an ePortfolio, which you will develop over the course of your time here at LMU, to be evaluated in your final semester in HIST 5995.
